Focus & Balance

Have had none for a while, that's why the last time I made a post was in July. Really trying hard not to make this blog post too personal cause of everything that's happened since July. Is focus and balance necessary in the garden? Yes. What is your focus? What do you want your focus to be on when you are in or observing your garden? Even if it's just throwing seeds and letting them do whatever, you gotta figure out what type of seeds you want to throw and where you want to throw them. Plan and purpose, I guess is my definition of focus. My focus has been more on my book than my gardening, which has been more distracting than expected. I must refocus my attention so that does not happen again, that where balance comes in.

a balanced garden

Balance is important. I've had a client and about 80% of their landscape were hostas and there was a couple of different varieties but it wasn't a true hosta garden with hundreds of varieties. The only problem was because they didn't balance out the landscape with other perennial plants, when the rabbit infestation happened, most of their hostas disappeared within one season. Even bits of the new growth that will come up after being chomped down, would be chomped down again by the baby rabbits. Balance in the landscape means not creating mono cultures of plants because if you have a pest or an insect or something happens that's only affecting that plant what else do you have to look at ?

With me, it would be the equivalent of putting all my energy into gardening and not having other therapeutic and financial resources. I mean, I'll be happy but if I get injured, I'm pretty much done. The book is taking a lot of my attention, hopefully next year I'm better so my new growth can pop up and hopefully they don't get chopped down by greedy rabbits.
